BEYOND EDUCATION

The MasterCard Foundation and the African Leadership Academy are collaborating to pilot an innovative scholarship model for African students called Beyond Education. This initiative identifies and places academically talented young people from disadvantaged communities into universities around the world. A peer group of MasterCard Foundation Scholars who share a commitment to going back to the continent and improving the lives of others are placed within each university. Universities participating in this pilot are committed to supporting disadvantaged students, have supportive and nurturing environments, and have programs relevant to Scholars’ academic interests and career aspirations.

The following universities are hosting and co-funding Scholars through this model:

  • Jacobs University – Germany
  • Marist College – USA
  • Quest University – Canada
  • Trinity College – USA
  • United States International University – Kenya
  • University of Rochester – USA
  • West Virginia University – USA
  • Westminster College – USA
